Abstract

|
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of individual occupational therapy and the integrated group reminiscence counseling on psychological health and cognitive function of the elderly at long-term care facilities, Methods :Among the elderly at long-term care facilities, each eight people were randomly selected as experimental and control groups, respectively. Individual occupational therapy and group remi?niscence counseling were given to experimental group for 30minutes once a week and 30-40 minutes twice a week (total 16 times) for 8 weeks, respectively. Pre-and post-tests were per?formed using KGDS and SF-8 for psychological health(depression and quality of life), MMSE-K and memory item of NCSE for cognitive function, respectively. Wilcoxon sign?ed-ranks tests was used to examine the difference before and after the intervention in two groups, respectively. Mann-Whitney test was used to examine the difference in changes be?tween two groups after the intervention, Results: Experimental group sh wed statistically significant difference in depression and quality of life which were psychological health after intervention, but control group showed no statistically significant difference. Changes of MMSE-K after the intervention between two groups showed statistically significant difference, Conclusion: Individual occupational therapy and group reminiscence counseling gave the positive impact on psychological health and changes in cognitive function of the elderly at care facilities. Therefore, I would like to propose the development of individual occupational therapy and in?tegrated group reminiscence counseling as an effective method of occupational therapy.
